AUBERGINE IBIZA RestaurantART EXHIBITION: TALKING TREES by Mary-Lynne Stadler @ AUBERGINE IBIZA Restaurant

from  12.00 – 24.00 hrs

An exhibition of paintings, drawings and mixed media works by Mary-Lynne Stadler, with contributions from people from all around the world.

It all began when she met a tree, a very ancient olive tree, on the terraces in the campo behind San Carlos.

The first thing that immediately struck her that day of the first meeting was that she had a heart – a heart that was clearly defined and embraced by her old bent and broken branches.

She has lived through hundreds of years of winds and floods and droughts. She has weathered storms and diseases, as well as interventions by insects, and humans and animals. Every one of those experiences has been scored, more or less deeply, in every fibre, every creeping root and every one of her broken branches, and each one has left its individual mark. And yet, despite the ravages of centuries that have scarred her, she still has a warm and embracing heart that continues to beat with life, and sends fresh new growth to reach the sky.

Mary knew she had to make work about her, and started sketching, there in front of her, in the biting winter wind. There are so many facets to this tree, so much history locked in her, that no single image will tell her story well enough. She has drawn her in pencil and charcoal, ink and gouache and more. At times I have sketched her quickly and roughly, other times the work has been done more painstakingly and in more detail.

In the end, though, she hoped that the range of work mirrors something of the complex nature of the way a single, ancient tree grows, survives and flourishes through the centuries.

Once she started working she began to think more about trees that have featured in her life, and when she started talking to people she realised that they, too, could pick out certain trees from their histories. Then she heard a talk by Canadian forester, Susanne Simard, who has shown that trees have a vast communication network through their roots that covers distances that stretch for many kilometres.

So it occurred to her that it would be interesting to mirror the trees’ communications and start people talking to one another about their trees stories, and sharing their creative interpretations of trees. So that we could generate greater respect for these magnificent plants through making people more aware of their own personal connections to trees.

The contributions quickly started to pour in. And the more interesting, touching or creative ones will become part of the exhibition, as will work by Mary-Lynne’s students and local children.

In the meantime, when all the talk has been about climate change, we need more trees. The scientists are telling us that planting enough more trees could absorb enough CO2 from the atmosphere to give us another decade of breathing space.

So this exhibition is more than just an exhibition. It is a message from the old olive tree to each and every one of us to stop cutting down the trees, and to start planting more trees.

About the Artist

Mary-Lynne Stadler is a fine art painter and printmaker living on the island, and working from her studio at Elysian, in Es Canar.

She fulfilled a life-long ambition to study art as a mature student, when she took an Honours degree in Art and Creative Writing at Bath Spa University College, Bath, England in 2001. She was subsequently awarded a Fellowship in Stone Lithography at the same establishment, and, two years later, joined the Cyprus College of Art on a year-long Postgraduate Diploma in Art.

Cyprus has a way of working its seductive magic on a person, and for the next decade she found herself still living and working there. During that time she was an active member of the art community on the island, participating in many exhibitions and events, including the first Open Studios event there in 2006, and running art workshops for both adults and children at her studio. For a time, she also taught both printmaking and History of Art to the students at the Cyprus College of Art.

She has exhibited widely in the UK and in Cyprus, as well as here on Ibiza, and her work can be found in collections all over the world, from Hawaii to Hong Kong.

An international team of creative artists, musicians, painters, photographers and djs, long time Ibiza’s residents, have come together and brought into being a new spirit of celebration – Namaste!
The “Namaste” gesture is a sign of greeting expressing respect towards others. As a usual gesture, the inside of the palms are joined together and placed on the chest, in proximity of the heart, with the head slightly bowed.
The significance of this gesture is: “I honor the divine spirit in you, which I also honor within me, thus knowing that we are one.”
This is the philosophy behind the Namaste parties

Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel presents: “O” a collective exhibition on eroticism by the hand of Adda Gallery returns to Ibiza for its fourth edition.

Ten artists from different countries and artistic fields — illustration, urban art, photography, pop surrealism — the show offers these artists ’vision on one of the recurring themes in art and life: Eroticism.

Sometimes rejected, relegated to the confines of what is respectable and what is not, eroticism has never ceased to captivate and inspire artists. Drawings, prints and photos make a homage to seduction, to the body, to the carnal pleasures, to the senses. Offering a realistic, romantic, sensual, even febrile or humorous view of the matter.

ART EXHIBITION: TALKING TREES by Mary-Lynne Stadler @ AUBERGINE IBIZA Restaurant

aubergine-sep1

Exhibition from August 30 to October 13, 2019 – Curated by Anna Dimitrova

Having established himself as a true heavyweight in Ibiza over the past two years, Black Coffee will return to take the reins each Saturday night at Hï Ibiza from the 25 May – 5th October 2019.

The full line-ups will soon be revealed but since opening its doors in 2017, the residency has fast become synonymous with cutting edge cool, forward-thinking curation and some of the most stand-out moments Ibiza has seen. Expect complete immersion in the tribal sophistication, spiritual splendour and scintillating performances from internationally renowned Ibiza regulars, underground stars and special guests.

His newest single “Wish You Were Here” is a lush collaboration with African songbird Msaki and pre-cursor to the award-winning music producer’s 6th solo long player forthcoming later this year. This year, the artwork for Black Coffee has been designed by artist Harmonia Rosales who believes in creating art with meaning and impact, moving people to see the world differently and to be guided by that new vision.

I’m also excited to launch the Orbit Scholarship which will enable one local student at each of our retreats the opportunity to take part in the programme for free. Orbit aims to be a truly global project so I’ve assembled a crack team of partners from Europe, the USA and Australia. Fittingly we launch our first and very exclusive event in Ibiza, the dance music capital of the world and my home for many years, so I’m super excited to get started and can’t wait to create some superstars!”

Orbit’s programme will cover all the essentials to succeed in the music industry, including; using DJ equipment at the highest level of performance, mastering production and software skills, marketing, social media and branding, business and career development, plus workshops and classes focused on health and wellbeing.

Orbit will also introduce the Sleep Retreat with Josie and Rob Da Bank, which aims to help teach and encourage ways to relax, unwind, switch off and ultimately sleep, through a feast of exercises including Yoga, breathwork coaching and meditation, all led by Rob Da Bank and soundtracked by leading electronic DJs and musicians.

Rob Da Bank, Sleep Retreat co-founder said: “Iʼve been practising yoga, sitting in meditation and working with some amazing wellness and spiritual practitioners for over 15 years now as part of our festivals and Josie and I have personally practised yoga for 2 decades. Iʼm now ready for the next phase of this journey and am proud to be launching Sleep Retreat in 2019. Imagine diving into a different world for an hour or two and coming out as refreshed as if youʼve just woken up”

Orbit DJ Retreats will offer a fresh approach to learning the skills it takes to be successful in the music industry, with a focus on developing core attributes of students to build and maintain a long, healthy and successful career. Orbit will offer not only a comprehensive technical program but also universal experience and knowledge of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in the music industry.

Teaming up with the mental health awareness campaign We Are Hummingbird, co-founder and trainer; Ian Hurst will deliver workshops, information and advice throughout the retreat and beyond to help students on their journey through the often challenging landscape of the electronic music world.

The 5 day immersive learning retreat including accommodation at the Orbit Finca starts at €1999 per person.

paradisoibizaarthotel“O” – A collective exhibition on eroticism – 4th edition @ PARADISO IBIZA ART HOTEL

from 09.00 hrs  always open
