* Assumption of the Virgin: This celebration refers to the elevation to heaven of the body and soul of the Virgin Mary. In 1950, Pope Pius XII defined Assumption as a dogma of faith. This means that anyone who is Catholic can not doubt this fact, treating it as true from the moment it was defined as a dogma of faith.
The 15th of August is one of the most important Catholic and legal holidays in Spain and – Assumption Day or Asunción de la Virgen.
Especially on this day, there are plenty of things to see for tourists on the island, such as small festivals, markets and fairs.
In Spain | Ibiza, the tradition and customs of this day are kept very high, including the Holy Mass and processions that move through the streets of villages and towns.
This day is celebrated as a solemn celebration in relation to the reception of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, in heaven. The processions passing through the historic towns with their narrow streets are a unique spectacle for visitors of Ibiza, one they never experienced in their own Catholic communities.
