Artists
in Ibiza get easily inspired by the
legendary mystical spirit of Ibiza -
Ibiza in
50ties was a place of refuge for many artists from
around the world, as also for a number of Dutch writers
and poets, such as: Cees Nooteboom, Jan Cremer, Harry
Mullisch and Simon Vinkenoog, which fled from the narrow
minded postwar atmosphere in the Netherlands to find new
inspiration in Ibiza.
Ibiza,
still untouched in those years was unspoiled and the
inhabitants were particularly tolerant, as a result of
centuries of domination by many different cultures.
Also Dutch visual artists such as Jan Cremer, Lei Molin
painter, photographer, illustrator Cas Oorthuys and
Waldemar Post found their inspiration here in those days.
Ibiza,
with its high degree of freedom and tolerance, proved
the perfect source of inspiration that all were looking
for after the war, to give shape to a new ideal of light
and freedom.
Later on new generations of artists came to the
go-as-you-please atmosphere of the island, including
digital artists
Micha Klein and
Danielle Kwaaitaal
that projected their designs in the Pacha, a famous and
trendsetting club on Ibiza.
A special and fruitful cooperation between the Groninger
Museum, Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and a cultural
organization in Ibiza has led to a unique survey of
visual arts and literature by Dutch artists who visited
or lived in Ibiza over the past half century.
Focal punt of this exhibition were Jan Cremers
activities in the 60-ties and that of Micha Klein in the
90-ties.
Micha Klein
worked several seasons at various locations and clubs in
Ibiza, and performed in Amnesia, Privilege, Pacha and
KM5. This exhibition also displayed works by
Danielle Kwaaitaal.
The exhibition -
Vamos a IBIZA / Into IBIZA! / Going to
Ibiza / Coming from Ibiza - was held
in 2007 both in Amsterdam and in Eivissa on Ibiza.
Presently, over 50 years later, Ibiza still attracts
artists from all around the world, and still today they
are not only attracted by the beautiful, unspoilt
landscape of the island but also by the ideal of freedom
and tolerance that the island and its inhabitants
strongly promote, that provides a source of inspiration
for many young artists, who by staying in this beautiful
island give impetus to new and fresh artistic
expressions.
In Ibiza Art
you will find all
art
galleries (which are many) spread over the entire
island. Such as Van
der Voort Gallery in Ibiza and
Galería Es Moli
with an interesting mix of modern art and photos and
various fascinating pieces. If you are interested in
local artists than the
House gallery Ibiza is worth a visit.
Of course Ibiza also offers historical art that is
exhibited in the
Archaeological Museum of Ibiza and at
The Des Puig Molins
Necropolis your will find remnants of the
Phoenicians.
More about the cultural backgrounds of the island you'll
find in the
Etnological Museum in Santa Eulalia, and in the
living museum Can Ros (a restored finca, with
authentic furnishings in Santa Eulalia), where you can
admire everything about the life of the former islanders.
Ibiza Town also has a
Museum of Modern Art.
Artists on Ibiza are being inspired by the mystical
spirit of Ibiza, that one experiences immediately after
arrival on the island. This island breathes pure energy.

Artist
Irma Kuyper
She was born and raised in Amsterdam, and started her carrière during
the
transition from the eighties to the nineties.
During her stay in Spain, the linen and paper that she already exposed
with in the
Netherlands and Barcelona, were replaced by pieces of
wood she found on Ibiza.
The wood, already touched by time and whether when found, formed a
source of
great inspirations. .................MORE |
